K98 8x57 JRS - Your opinions about
-
First: the coat of arms reveals it to be a Portuguese Mauser.
Second: It is not a K98k, but an M937-A short rifle - note the extra sling bracket towards the rear of the butt.
Third: These rifles were made with the normal 8x57 IS chambering. You wrote 8x57 JRS. Are you sure? the R means a rimmed cartridge. If the rifle has been rechambered, that really reduces its value.

Hallo Patrick Chadwick,
Thanks for your answer.
I am not sure about the actual chambering since I reported pictures and infos I saw at a selling announce here
Armiusate.it :: Milano : Armi lunghe : Mauser MODELLO K98 8x57 JRS
I should ask to the seller confirmation about that.

I called the seller, chambering is 8x57 IS. The announce is wrong.

OK, is "monomatricola" the Italian equivalent of "all-matching"? If so, then I would guess the price here in Germany to be around 200-300 Euros. In Italy, it seems that prices for old service rifles are somewhat heigher, so maybe more like 250-350 Euros.
It depends on the state of the bore. But the seller does not say anything about that. And seems to want to avoid answering questions in writing by claming he does not have a computer. So how did he place the advertisement? These days I find it hard to believe that someone who places an advertisement on the Internet does not have access to a PC and e-mail, not even through a friend.
So go carefully. Assume that the bore is not good (otherwise the seller would have said so) and value the piece accordingly. Call the seller, since he provided a phone number, but remember that anything he says cannot be proven later.

Correct, Patrick.
"monomatricola" means that all rifles parts are bearing same serial number.
The price for these kinds of rifle in Italy is crazy, people are trying to sell at 1.200 Euro !
