How'd I do?

I recently bought this Inland dated late 1944 (serial number 6, 341, XXX) for $650. How'd I do? Also,any info on originality would be appreciated.

Nice looking carbine. Looks like typical mixmaster. The highwood stock has me puzzeled. I can't figuare out the slingwell markings. :dunno: GK

I'll echo shadycon with the early highwood topped by a later 4 rivet guard, type 3 bayo lug, safety...this just from the easy pictures. See what i have learned in such a short time, lol
but still, it's a beautiful gun !! and a piece of history.

flat bolts ended when?

The 'big three' (receiver, barrel, trigger housing) I think were together originally, but basically everything else is a mixture, like the IBM bolt and Saginaw slide. Still, most carbines are in this condition today, and as long as it functions, you definitely did okay for $650. Ten years ago that would have been a rip-off, but it's an average price today for a rebuild.

I think you did quite well.

Trigger Housing has the M2 mods.
Stock looks to have that RSG coke bottle style.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to all to this, but what do you mean by "Stock looks to have that RSG coke bottle style"?

The shape under the frt barrel channel of your stock..... looks..... like it might have the shape commonly found on Robert Irwin made stocks. Not positive from your picture.
Irwin made stocks for Ip, SG and S'G'. The Irwin made for SG stocks are often found with a number in the slingwell. The numbers thought to be placed by the folks at Saginaw.
Look closely for a small RSG stamp in the slingwell.
Also when you happen to have the barreled/receiver out of the stock, look for a green looking number stamp inside the stocks barrel/slide channel.

All of this is null and void if you can find any sign of a CC stamp on the right side.
BTW, early style recoil plate, with slanted rear wall.
Nice find for the $$.
Import marked ones are going for more.

Oops on the slide, but it also should be a Type V or VI, definitely didn't come on the carbine. BTW, Garrett, can you show us the M1 mark on the receiver ring? I would guess it's a hand-stamp.
