I know the US Navy yeoman patch on the left is from 1943. It came with the unknown patch to its right, HSS? Its been suggested on the US Militaria board, its British Empire? Any ideas

By the shape of the letter "S", I think you have the patch upside down, therefore it should read "SSH".
Unfortunately I have no idea what it is, there were a number of obscure ratings during WW2 and thereafter, it is possible that it is RN, but I vote for USN.
