Remington 1891 Nagant question

Hello all,
I have a Remington 1891 Mosin Nagant that I picked up a couple of years ago. It's missing the bayonet and also the rear sling escutcheon and has been one of those "I'll get around to it someday" projects. Now is the time I'm starting to take a look at tracking down stuff for it. My key question is this: regarding the sling attachments on the rifle, what "should" they look like? Should they have the wire swivel running through them? If someone could please post a photo of what would be correct for a 1917 Remington 1891 I'd be most appreciative!

According to 7.62x54r.net, the US M91's had sling escutcheons just like most other models which utilized the "dog collar" sling attachments. There are images on the link above.

Where did you find the info on their site? I looked under "features" and then "sling attachments" (or something of that nature) and they had lots of photos of what seemed to be everything but the American made stuff.

Or from the homepage, click on the "Mosin Nagant Models" link, then click "M91", scroll a down a bit until you see "US (Remington) WWI Contract US Walnut Stock" and that's the page you want. Basically I think it would have used the same sling configuration as any other model with the escutcheons. The "dog collar" leather strap goes through the escutcheons and buckles to form a loop which the sling wraps around. The "dog collar" then acts as the sling swivel.

Well that is at least some good news because it means I don't have to try and track down those wire swivels. Thank you for the clarity on the webpage also. That's a lot of data to sift through and I was finding that it wasn't all necessarily organized in a way that was easiest to navigate (though it appeared as such).

One more question though. The escutcheon itself, do you know if it is the same as any other model? I'm missing the front one, that's why I ask.

I don't know for sure, but I'm going to assume and suggest that you find the metal slot type with the two screws. However, I have seen images (just recently) of Remington M91's with the wire swivel type as well. I have a Finn captured 91/30 with the swivel type escutcheon which was missing the swivels. They aren't always easy to find but I managed to find a matching pair eventually for sale on gunbroker.com. As far as finding the escutcheon by itself, I'd just have to suggest ebay or gunbroker.

Yeah, I've been haunting those two sites and to no avail so far. I appreciate the help though.
