Couple of mag questions.....

So, where's the best place to buy new 15 round mag springs????? All of my USGI springs measure less than 5-1/4". Two were like 5-1/8" almost, and two were 5". Strange thing is I have this parked mag:

It's faintly marked "IW" and it was the only one that had a spring that measured 5-1/4". Anyone know what it is? I threw that spring into one of my USGI mags marked RC. And the C looks weird. With lines through it.

Also, is this 30 rounder any good? It's marked M2. I have not had good luck with it. It'll shoot rounds out when it gets down to about 6 rounds or so. Maybe feed lip problems? So I guess I'm answering my own question, but is it worth fixing? Seems heavily constructed. It won't even go in the Inland though. Fits the standard products just fine though.

That 30 rounder is aftermarket JUNK! The only really reliable 30s are USGI (AI, SEY, KI, J, or OKay) or Belgian AYP. USGI are thicker steel than the aftermarket like yours. The new Korean 30s aren't too bad, but I would stick with USGI. I have only had one aftermarket 30 that was as good as GI. I think it was a Schearer mnfg. You can get new USGI magazine springs cheap from Chestnut Ridge Supply.

Your Parkerized 15-rd mag is a Winchester. All WWII carbine mags were blued originally, but they frequently get Parkerized by owners when the finish gets bad. Plus, it is said that some arsenals Parkerized magazines in the post-war era to make them serviceable. Also, I wouldn't replace magazine springs in good-working mags.

I agree, unless the 15 rounder spring is 5 inches or less, I would leave it be.. My 15s all have varying spring lengths. I did replace all of my USGI 30s springs a few years back, though, Some were degrading. All my 30s function 100% now. A new spring, however, will probably not fix the aftermarket 30. They are flimsier compared USGI. AYPs are my favorite 30s.

I already put a new spring in that 30 rounder. It didn't help it at all.

The problem with leaving the springs as is in the 15 rounders, I don't know if they were the problem or not in my function problems. I'm hoping that the op slide spring is what will do it. I can use the one mag with the 5-1/4" to start off with for a baseline.

Yes, I agree, stick with known USGI 15 rounders. I ended up with ten of the Korean mags on a trade a few years ago and most wouldn't seat in any of my carbines. The seller made it right but I'm still stuck with those mags. I have parked a few USGI 15 rounders that were rusted and they came out looking good and are very servicable.

I have a half dozen 30 rounders, two of which are junk aftermarket mags that won't even stay locked in most of my carbines.

The magazines from Korea have a very good reputation and many feel they are as good as the USGI mags. Springfield Armory experimented with parkerizing magazines. They did quite a few of them before they dropped the project as they were so many new ones available at the time. Not rare just not found everyday but there are quite a few around.

Yep, that's what I got. And then I have:
a "UN", an "SI", and an "IS". I have a couple more, but they're so ratty and pitted, I wasn't really considering them serviceable. Although maybe I should measure their springs and try and clean them up anyways. I'll have to take a picture of all them. At least the 30 rounder can work for a photo op. Hehhehehe
