Proper way to lace a leather checkpiece

How to do it?
Do any of you more experienced Enfield gurus know the proper way to lace up a leather cheekpiece on a Pattern 1914 Mk I* W(T)A (basically a 1914 .303
Enfield made by Winchester & fitted with an Aldis offset scope)?
My leather cheekpiece has a row of seven holes along the upper (right) edge of the leather, with a higher one at each end, one above the second hole and one above the sixth and seventh hole. Thelower (left) edge just has the seven holes.
I have tried several patterns and none of them look convincing.
Any guidance from the collective wisdom out there?

I did some research and I couldn't find a reference anywhere, so now I'm curious. :D

Perhaps there wasn't an official way, just whatever the user ended up with.....

Well, this is the correct way to lace a leather cheek pad on a Garand snpier (M1C or M1D):

I've never seen a cheek pad on a P14 but this, like yours, has seven holes on each side. The brass nails (I use brass screws) hold it all in place and actually can go where the pad is the most comfortable.

I usually just lurk here but I couldn't believe no one here knew how to do this. You all need to go out and buy yourself an M1D :)
