I'm thinking about getting a bayonet for my 1943 inland carbine. Does anyone have a photo of the correct one I should look for. Also if u want to post some photos of carbines with bayonets attached I'd love to see them.

There was no correct bayonet for a 43 Inland. They did not exist in 43. The carbine was issued with an M3 trench knife in an M6 leather scabbard. M4 bayonets didn't come along until late 44 and were then issued like M3 knives even though the carbines did not have bayonet lugs yet. Very few carbines with bayonet lugs actually got into the field before the war ended.
Oh well. My bayonet lug must have been added to my rifle in a rebuild. Where is a good place to read about all this or is there a good book I should look into?

JB, yes, the lug was added during probably a post war rebuild. Although not really correct for a 43, you could use a leather wrapped M4 like this one. Pictures is just for reference. There are a number of manufacturers and reproductions you might be interested in.

Probably one of the best books out there today is American Military Bayonets of the 20th Century by Gary Cunningham It is well worth getting if you have even a passing interest in GI cutlery. It is published by Scott Duff Publications. It covers the scabbards as well as the bayonets themselves.

That's sweet. Doesn't it shoot any different with the bayonet installed. I know on some of my bolt action ww2 that u have to adjust the sights if your not using the bayonet.Quote:
