The staples used are/were a standard size and used to be available from leather working hardware makers, I have not seen any in years so suspect that they are no longer made. You can make them yourself with mild steel wire of the correct gauge if there is no other source.
In order to install them properly you will need a correctly sized mandrel to put inside the scabbard to act as an anvil when you drive them in. If the tip is still solidly attached (hide glue was used along with the staple) then you can drive the staple in and use the bayonet to bend the staple so that it will stay in place but it will remain loose. The mandrel is fairly easily made but you will need to remove the top mount in order to get it in place, then you will have to reinstall said top mount using the hide glue and another staple. So it goes.
Staples are available from Imperial Bayonet who sells on Eslime...or were. Drop him a note
Mike is a decent guy to deal with.
I'm interested but can't find "Eslime". Do you have a link or are you just playing games?
You understand of course, he means Ebay...
Of course I do, I just find the name calling a little silly - best to say what you mean and move on.
British staples are black (painted) and Australian are grey phosphate. Let me know by private message and I will find you a couple from the few thousand available to me. The big question is the mandrel because without it you will have difficulty with attaching the chape.
