need to remove varnish?
Picked up a Remington 1903A3, all the metal looks original and excellant all Remington marked parts, the stock looks amazing other than the original owner varnished? it. Any advice on how to remove this without sanding off inspection stamps. It matches the finish on may kitchen table well, just that is not what I want.

Lacquer thinner. It is not overly aggressive and will leave any color to the wood. Many chemical strippers will clean everything off the wood. Use a toothbrush to clean the varnish out of any stampings.
