What was the preferred scope cover/lens cover used on the original Remington M40s with the Redfield 3-9x40 scope? --TIA
I think the Butler Creek flip up covers are the closest thing currently available. They bought out the original Mfg. -"Vissing" or similar. But I think they had the same problems back then as now. Fragile, slowish, apt to open when not desired, etc. Hunks of inner tube will work as well and be "authentical" looking.
Sort of like this, but substitute electrical tape or wire or something vintage instead of the tie wraps:

I don't use anything but the one piece stretchy rubber covers that sort of look like a sling slot with cups at both ends. (Not shown here.)
