U.S. Army marked 1909

I picked this up about 6 months ago and found it quite interesting, It's marked R.A.C. on the passenger side as well as the inspector "FB". Its a mint condition 1909 in .45 colt. Handguns really are not my thing, but, I had to have this one, any suggestions on the R.A.C. markings, Thanks-SDH:D:

R.A.C. is Rinaldo A.Carr.A US govt. inspector at either Colts or Sprinfield Armory.

Thanks Ken, I was also wonering what the FB on the top by the hammer might mean, it seems strange to have two inspectors, maybe a rebuild??SDH

Since I own a couple of M1909s, you made me curious. Mine both have both RAC and FB on them.

It's amazing what you can find with a simple Google search.

The M1909 carried the initials of both the civilian inspector (but Army employee) Rinaldo A. Carr (RAC) and the Army Inspector of Ordnance, either Maj. (later Col.) Frank Baker (FB) or, later in the production series. , Maj. Walter G. Penfield (WGP). Carr spent 25 years inspecting Army revolvers and his initials appear on many models.

Thank you Hot Tom, have you had a chance to fire any of yours yet? The cold reaks havoc with my back so I have to wait til the weather breaks before I test drive it.Sure is a large round, I haven't fired a heavy handgun in over 20 years and the round looks bigger by the day-SDH
