Hi Guys,
I came across this bayonet and was wondering if I am correct in assuming that it is a Mauser 98 K Bayonet and could anyone give me any details as to what the numbers on the knife mean. Also on the leather frog it says 'gfg' and what looks like a date under it but I can't work out whether it says 1912 or 1942.
Any help greatly appreciated.

1942 frog "gfg" maker code for Carl Hepting & Co. Stuttgart-Feuerbach Lederwaren u. Gürtelfabrik. 1944 bayonet F.W Holler "fze" manufacturer code. There should be some waffenamts on the ball of the scabbard. WaA with eagle and number. Same on pommel of the bayonet. Should be another number on the spine of the bayonet. What numbers if any on the metal scabbard?
The early K98k bayonets had the last two digits of the year of manufacture on the spine, and usually had the manufacturer's name on the blade opposite the serial number. When they went to the manufacturers code the date of manufacture was included with the maker's code on the side of the blade.
