I just got around to joining this site and figured this would be the place to ask for some help. I am in the final stages of a jungle carbie rebuild and cant seem to find a bayonet lug for the flash hider. For some unkown reason bubba decided that the flash hider looked fine but the lug had to go the way of the hack saw. I had seen just the lugs listed on numeric a LONG time ago but those seem to have dried up. Are there any still around or am i SOL?

I believe Numrich has the flash hider & bayo lug. BUT take care! There are two sizes. One of them is for a fatter barrel. Removing the old part is going to be a very difficult task. The pins are wedge shaped and only go in (or can be driven out) from the thin end. Some are soldered on and usually they are heat shrunk. If you´re new to the job, I´d get a qualified gunsmith to do it ... and he will not be too pleased. The lugs were removed all over Europe for legal reasons. Without the lug, the No. 5 was then not regarded as "military". This is no longer necessary here in Germany.
We regularly used to replace flash eliminators in service for various reasons. PRESS the pins out (don't fxxxxxg hammer them........, you just make the thin end thick!) as per Villiers and using a bearing press, slowly PRESS the old eliminator off using a short brass drift onto the crown of the muzzle and it'll slide off square and clean.
Replace with new flash eliminator, align ears with rifle body using a sheet of glass, ream to align holes and replace taper pins. Done zillions of them!
Ah ... but Peter´s an Armourer. He´s long forgotten the pain suffered by the inexperienced.
I think the Numrich ones are reproductions which if they like the one attached to a No 5 in my collection are quite diffrent in finish to the originals. Springfield Sporters has the originals on a cut off barrel ( ouch) for $75 (ouch).
thank you Mr Laidler for the removal info. that makes things much simpler. at this point i may just mill out a new lug and tig it in place then finish it to match. the flash hiders from numeric are repos so at worst i could always take the easy path and just replace it but i would really like to keep the original.
To be honest, I WOULD just tig a new piece on first THEN hand file/fit to shape. I haven't done this to a No5 as I never saw a bayonet lug snap or shear off but I have brazed a new lug onto a Sterling SMG quite successfully.
If you can TIG weld, why not use a Sterling lug? You would have to cut off the part that goes inside the tube, but lug should work.

Or just make the bloody thing. Bit of mild steel - it's a doddle............... Take you 15 minutes.
