Was there a standardized basic color. Most I've seen are OD green but I have one that is brown and appears to be the original color but hard to tell. At one point it was banded in three places and painted over the bands. The bands were nailed in place. The only readable markings are :
Weedon, UK
B.O.D. (in big red letters)
PFC Pasadeana
Made in England (suspect this was for importation.
'Deep matt dark earth green' was the colour as I recall. The trouble is that everyone has their own idea about what this colour is exactly. The closese bog standard off-the-shelf- colour was the current Land Rover IRR paint!
WEEDON. The huge Ordnance Depot in Northamptonshire, closed in the mid 60's or so and moved to Donnington in Shropshire

Seen a few like this in this colour but when you look carefully they are usually green under the paint. Probably the same as Charlies if he looks. The old markings can usually be brought up by wiping a thin layer of the old paint away with acetate. Same as Bren chests. I know that the EoN Bren chests (made by Elliots of Newbury, on the original Horsa glider line) were all painted in the glossy scamic green of the era
This is one of the ones you have seen - the previous owner told me he used to shoot at the same range / club as you and that you had given it the 'once over'. He also gave me a letter from you explaining the markings.Quote:

Attached is a picture of my No4 (T) transit chest - repainted later in its service life. Can any one throw any light on the markings?

34 Base Workshop is/was Catterick if I remember correctly.
I would imagine that the red band indicates a 'lock-up stores' category and the coloured triangle/square/circle is the company marking. But in my service, I can assure you that they weren't EVER painted as well as that.
