How to sling the No4 Mk1(T)

Hi, I would like to learn how to sling the 4(T) using the the large target swivel at magazine front please.

I know how to sling the 1907 sling using front swivel only but have never been able to figure what sling to use and how to use the large target swivel.

I would be very interested in this too.

Basically, like this but with a half-twist when installing sling (avoiding the unsightly half-twist shown here between biceps and swivel).

Very stable and comfortable - and a lot less fuss than the US M1907.

The snipers were taught the method used 'by the book' but told that there were other methods that they were free to use. True to form, they'd try all manner of combinations, especially with the later clamp-buckle nylon and webbing slings. It came down to a matter of comfort and individual choice

It's all in the L39/L42 User Handbook and addendum with pictures. I still have a few copies left. Get them now because I'm not printing any more.

I've attached images from the relevant pages of the official 1951 Infantry Training Pamphlet 'Sniping' of how to use the sling 'American Pattern'. Hope they are of help...

I understand that the sling discussed in the pamphlet is the 1907.

What is the method when/if the webbing sling is used for same usage???

If I ubderstand correctly, there is a major difference between using the 1907 sling like the US Army vs. same sling used by British Army.

In first case (US), the sling is used with arm passing betwen the small loop created between the two sling lengths ( long and short) and sling is held tight at bicep level by tightening/pulling the long end and squeezing keepers on bicep.

In the second case (Brits) the arm is simply passed in the overall loop from outside and hand is twisted into position to hold forend tight.
The sling is not squeezed in place at bicep level in any way.

Please confirm and/or add comments.

Yes. Shooting competitions with both types, my experience is that the British sling is quicker to use, but less stable in position. I have gradually attached 1907 slings to all competition rifles where it is permitted (it would look odd on an M1871 Mauser!)
