OK guys, please make a realistic estimate here.
We will suppose that a jungle carbine, in excellent condition, appearing to be used very little, complete with matching bolt and original canvas sheath, is worth $450.
What would it be worth with non matching #5 bolt?
What woud it be worth with non matching #4 bolt?
An excellent condition matching No 5 is worth $550 for the rifle alone. The canvas bag could be worth an additional $50-$100 depending on date and originality.
As for any value, it is what the buyer is willing to pay for it and one person's definition of excellent is going to be another person's very good, good or fair.
Any rifle with a non-matching bolt is going to be worth considerably less to any collector and I would imagine it would drop to the $300 range pretty fast as that's what I see them selling for.
An incorrect type bolt would drop it even lower as most individuals other than strict shooters are going to want to replace it and a bolt can run anywhere between $50-$100.
You want to see specific prices, check one of the online auction sites like Gunbroker. Don't go off what they are trying to sell them for but what they actually sold for. You can also view actual conditions that way too.
They seem to be selling in the $300-$400 range pretty regularly but I haven't been paying that close attention to them.
