Just started reloading MH rounds and find that my cheap puller is not large enough. What do you use. Would like to keep it kinetic. Thanks, Randy

I purchased this from Midway.
Looks like mine. Are you sure it can handle the MH rounds. Randy
Randy, several years ago I tried some of the Kynoch 577-450 from the 1950s. I found the same results as everyone else e.g. miss/delayed fire, frequent cracked cases on the first firing. I wanted to pull the bullets, fire the primers, pre-anneal the cases, modify to use the shotgun primers and reload using the original bullets, hopefully with increased case life. As my regular kinetic puller (like yours) was too small, I concocted this assemblage of plastic plumbing bits and an old broken hammer handle that has worked acceptably well. Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of exactly what pieces I used because I wasn't initially sure it would work. I brought an empty brass case to my local hardware store and matched it to what ultimately did work. Steel parts are not recommended for obvious reasons. I have also used this with reformed 24 ga brass (shown) with good results. Regards. Tom
Tom, looks weird but if it works I in. Will start part hunting on Wednesday. Thanks, Randy.
If you have a pressand a shell holder for the cartridge you can do what I have done with 8x60R kropatschek ball and blanks. Sandwich two blocks of wood together and drill a hole smaller in diameter than the bullets you are going to pull. Put a loaded round into the shell holder in the press and run it up so that the bullet is above the opening in the top of the press (no die in the press). Now place the two blocks of wood around the bullet and clampthem together so that they sqeeze the bullet firmly. Now lower the ram on the press. If the bullet is clamped firmly enough, it will be pulled out when you lower the ram.
