Sheet steel goggles? What is this?

Hello everyone. I was digging through my uncles militaria stash, and we came across these. Looks like 1/16" stamped steel goggles, with swing away steel lenses that have an x cut out. It has patent pending stamped on one side. Not a clue what they are, or if they are even military. Anyone have a clue?

I am not to sure whether they are military related but if I had to guess, I'd say they were welding goggles.

snow goggles?

Maybe, WW1 splinter shield for a sniper or machinegunner they did use crude steel body armour.

They are arieal gunner flak goggles:thup:
