I have to replace the follower spring on one of my Carcanos. This involves removing a screw that has about an 8th inch of threads at most. It won't budge. I tride penetrating oil, I've tried torching it, still stuck. I can't believe a screw this small can be such a problem.
It soaked about 20 hours in penetrating oil. I heated it with a torch, I tapped it with a hammer, I bent the heck out of a screwdriver and then drilled it out. I decided to forgo the dynamite route which was the 5th recommended technique on a google search result.
Now I just have to wait for the new screw and follower spring.
Ouch try heating it and then adding the penetrating oil it seems to suck it in as it cools and works a treat.

I did that but it didn't work either. Once I got the blasted thing out, I didn't find any rust on it. I suspect that what happened was that they way these screws are designed, deep slot and no head (the slot just cuts through the body of the screw) when someone tightened it too hard they expanded the slot and wedged it in place. I had a hard time tapping it out once I had the threads drilled out.Quote:

This may be OBE, but I've had success with Kroil and an impact screwdriver. Not all penetrating oils are created equal.
