new boom stick

i just bought my first enfield and im loving it. after i removed all the green paint the previous owner had sprayed all over it, she looks great. But im having an issue finding anything out about it. i know where it was made, per the UF in the front of the serial number, but any date is not easy to find. i payied 89bucks for it and i think i got a great deal.

1955 made I think (I may be wrong) That is a sweet rifle. She is gonna look damn good when you finish cleaning her up and give her a coat of linseed oil. $89 bucks is a damn good price for an original enfield. Most would want like 400-800 for a Mk2. I just got a sporterized SMLE for a buck (and thats only because you cant give firearms away in Canada apparently) and i just lightly sanded the stock and gave it a coat of oil. it already looks 100 times better It had some glossy varnish on it or something.

The gun was made in 1955, good deal!

Yeah man. I was looking at gunboker.com and some of the Mk2 rifles go for around 650$. their is one that has been on for over two weeks and the bid has gone up to 600 and the reserve was still not met. You got a damn good deal. A good condition Mk1 can go for 300-500 sometimes. How far have you come in cleaning her up? If you take the wood off to clean it, remember to take the rest of the wood off before you try to take the buttstock off. I had a hell of a time and almost stripped the big screw holding the buttstock on. If you take it off you will see why.

im going to work more on it this weekend. I think i will take the wood off and see what else i can do to it. Gonna get another polishing pad and shine her up then put some oil on the wood. I will post more pics.

I might even take a trip up to my dealer and see what else he has. He says there was an older guy in town that owned like 300+ of these, but they are all painted and chopped up. Might see if he has any more that look like the one i bought

the more i clean and work this rifle the more im thinking it never seen action. You can still see tool marks on the reciever, like not warn down.


my dealer had a SMLE* that looks really nice, 59bucks, but the stock is cut off and i would need to find another one to make it look decent.

LENo4 is a little out on the value of the rifle. Cleaned up and refinished, as long as the wood is fairly decent, the edges aren't rounded off etc and the bore is good $250ish.

The fun and experience of doing the job yourself, PRICELESS.

Looks great and the $89 you paid for it was also good. You took a real chance as you didn't know what was under that paint.

Anyway, good for you. You will get a lot of enjoyment out of that rifle one way or another. NOW, THE ADDICTION TO ENFIELDS BEGINS.

o its the truth. I was looking to sell the gun after i got it cleaned up, but the more i read and fire this gun. The more im falling in love with it. 89 bucks for a bolt action rifle that fires comparable to a 30-06, is a deal worth keeping. My next purchase is a B-square mount and a nice scope.

I am probably a little high on the prices, Im going by what i found though (I must have a gift for finding overpriced items or something). The ones i found though are unissued, recently unwrapped ones that have never seen more then 100 rounds so that might explain the high cost. Or maybe i am just completely out of the loop? anyways Im looking for a No.4 to restore as well.
