P J O'Hare for my M1903 rifle
Dear Collectors,
I recently bought at ebay.com two P J O'Hare tools for my M1903 rifle, a Front Sight Cover and a Rear Sight Micrometer Elevation Setting Tool.
Both seem to be in good shape and well preserved along the years.
As for the Front Sight Cover, the seller described the item in his ebay auction as follow :
Quote:
P J O'Hare front sight cover for the M1903 Springfield rifle. Please refer to Wm. S. Brophy, “The Springfield 1903 Rifles”, page 448. Overall condition is very good. Lots of minor dings. See the pictures.
These were manufactured in the 1920’s and 1930’s by P.J. O'Hare of New Jersey for competitors in the Camp Perry National Matches and other rifle matches.
I believe this example was the personal property of Brigadier General John William Oehmann (1882-1956), who served in WWI and WWII, and was by 1937 a Col. in the D.C. National Guard. It came to me from the estate of his late grandson, my neighbor of many years.
A silver 1923 mercury dime has been affixed to the front of the cover, probably for the purpose of identification during rifle matches.
Here are some pictures.
