Why different height sight blades for Lee Enfield's.??

I just debubbafide a 48' Ishapore I've had for a number of years. When I first got the rifle I didn't know much about Enfield's "still don't" and just thought they shot high. Now that I know about the different sight blades I wonder, Why? Why not 1 standard blade with all adjustments using the rear ramp. It certainly would have made production more streamlined.
Also, I've read somewhere the British soldier was taught to aim off is this true? Any insight is appreciated...

Before the SMLE Mk.III, there were indeed rifles that could be zeroed using additional adjusters built into the rear sight in addition to the ranging ramp. But sights with adjustments are very expensive components of the rifle package and adds plenty more potential for things to go wrong! Selecting a front sight from a kit is cheap and reasonably permanent. Very little potential for sqaddie induced error.

ETA: Hundreds of Enfield photos in my albums, but none of one of the early SMLE rear sights! Phooey. Sorry!

ebay has front sights...just hit buy now.

If you intend to do much front sight adjusting I would replace the awful reverse head screw with a socket head screw. Size 4BA I believe.

I'm not that savvy when it comes to fleabay. I did see on there a fellow in the UK had some but again I don't know how it works..

Reverse screw?? I have no screw on the front sight.

Springfield Sporters sell sight blades at $2 each or a set of 5 for $7. Is your 1948 Ishapore rifle a No 1 Mk III* or a No 4? The sight blades are different, but they have both types, same price.

That's on a No. 4 and later. The thread was about an Ishapore SMLE. No screw.

Its a No1 mk3.. FYI, it's looking like Springfield sporters is out of business. I've been trying for months to place an order,now the phone number is disconnected.
