Need some id help
I was cruising a local gun shop today and found this mauser. Its chambered in 7x57 unfortunately the gun is on ruff shape and was bubbafied. I would like to resurrect this gun into a project gun. Prob 6 mmbr but could be hundreds of possibilities. But was wondering if someone could tell me where the action was made? For 100 bux tho it prob is coming home with me soon.

Made in Spain. Don't go over board pressure wise as these were only proofed to around 45,000 or so psi. Would imagine the 6BR would be a bit too much cartridge for it. It would probably handle standard loads for the .257 Roberts or .250 Savage ok however I find the 7x57 hard to beat. JMO.

Well i still might buy it clean it up restock it and use it for a bit. I was hoping i could make a toy out of it but doesnt look to be safe. Or i might buy a 30-40 krag he has as well. Its been bubbafied as well but is in much nicer condition overall. I'll think on it for a bit.

Just me talking but if I were given the choice I'd go for the Krag if reasonably priced.

He wants 325 for the krag. Muzzle appears like it has seen alot of cleaning rods. Bore. Looks like it needs copper taken out of it. No noticable pitting in bore or outside.

A lot of these were redone to 7.62x51 and they do shoot quite well. Just do not use .308 Winchester in them as it's a higher pressure round and will cause damage to the rifle.

Well a friend has been looking for a cheap bolt action so he's prob gonna pick up the mauser. Still not sure on the krag. I don't like how the muzzle looks. If id be allowed to shoot it first it would firm up my thoughts on it and he might allow that. We'll see.
