If the rifle came with a "Correct Grade" Certificate from the CMP, then you have an authentic Correct Grade rifle. Without the certificate, you may (or may not) have a correct rifle, which is defined as a rifle that has been made correct by someone other than the CMP. It may even be an original rifle, but without photos (or being able to inspect the rifle personally) I can't give you any more info than that--way too many variables involved.
That's what I figured. The man I bought it from is looking for the certificate from the CMP. Are the major parts I mentioned correct? It wouldn't make any sense to exchange a part on a correct rifle with another part. I could also get a certificate from the CMP for 25 dollars which states the rifle was correct when sold. But that doesn't make much sense either. What photos would you need for an evaluation? Too bad they didn't mark parts like the Carbine manufacturers did. Regards, Rick.
Most parts ARE marked and can be identified by manufacturer. It's just not quite as easy as some carbine parts.
Thanks Jim. It really isn't worth the time if the parts I listed aren't correct. Where is a list of parts other than those that have ID? Regards, Rick.
Thanks for the advice.....all I really wanted to know should be common knowledge and that is the parts I've listed. It's not that I am a cheapskate but I don't need another reference book for one Garand. My other three were purchased by me from the CMP and are either correct or collector grade so I know they are what they should be. Regards, Rick.
OK Rick, I had a look at Duff's book for post WW2 guns and there are only two HRA rifles there that I see apply. The second one is 5710873 and all the numbers and DOD marks agree with what you have in the original post. Bear in mind, it was made a year after yours but...
Thanks a million and I understand the but. Regards, Rick.
