Just got this a few weeks ago. It has the following markings on it.
GR
SHT LE
III
2 MD
So far, I've found out it was made at the BSA Co, was in the Austrailian 2nd Military Devision and had a screw added to the fore stock in Ishapore. Too bad it doesn't talk, I'd love to hear the stories and know where and when it was used?

That looks like a really nice old girl with a lot of history,are there any D /i\ marks on the barrel and rieciever under the timber ?

Thanks. Not sure, have not looked under the wood yet. Will have to do that. If so,what would that mean?

Hi arron, it just means that it came back to Australia with the aussie troops from europe after ww1. If you havent removed timber from a Smle check out a video on youtube by jollygreenslug
