So I Took A Chance
And bought a Century International "U-Fix-Em" Chinese T-53 for $54. Got it in and the only things I found wrong was an incredibly cruddy barrel. I shined a flashlight down the bore and could not see the slightest bright spot. The thing was completely plugged with old cosmoline. Three days of scrubbing fixed that as much as is going to happen. Bore is a little pitted, but the rifling is good and it is not counterbored. I found a fairly cheap replacement cleaning rod at all places, on Amazon.com. Now all I need is a replacement stock, and it will be an M44, not a horrible chu wood replacement T-53 stock. Took my Okie headspace gauges and the headspace is still good. Now I need to get it to a range.

Found a stock at Numrich......for more than I bought the U-Fix-Em for. But, all in all, it has cost me a grand total of $123 and will soon be done, and ready for that range trip.

gandog56: I'd love to see a couple of photos of this one. Haven't run into one of them north of the border yet. Thanks.

Gandog56: Hope you have as much fun with your T53 as I am having with mine. Went to the range last weekend and shoot almost 80 rounds through it. Very accurate, and a blast to shoot. It makes everyone else at the range with AR15's and hunting rifles stop shooting to see what is making all the noise and smile at the muzzle blast.
