EDDYSTONE 1917 restoration questions

Recently acquired barreled receiver missing only minor parts. I quickly gathered the required parts to make it functional and had the CMP boys put a new barrel on while at Perry. Priority one was to be able to shot in local matches ASAP. Winter project is to gather correct parts, probably have Chuck in Denver refinish metal, restock with new matching wood.

Is there a list posted somewhere telling me what parts are correct for a SN 146,000? I know most of them should have an "E".

Probably Chuck questions.......when refinishing the metal what all comes apart? In particular I assume the front sight is removed to clean and prep but is it installed before blueing/park? I am concerned about reassembling finished parts without damaging the finish.

Can refinishing be done without removing the barrel? It turns out this gun is very accurate. I am concerned about removing and reinstalling changing the harmonics. I'm sure there are varying opinions on this.

I am open to opinions and suggestions. Yes, I am considering not touching this gun and looking for another one to restore.

Hi-river, I have an 10-17 dated eddystone take-off barrel that was parkerized/refinished after WW1. The area where the front sight was is blued and the rest of the barrel is more of a matt black. On an 11-18 barrel I have the finish is uniform all over. So I would assume that the barrels were blued before installation of the sights. They appear to have finish on the threads so I would assume that they were finished before being installed on an action. My sample is very limited and someone such as chuckindenver would have more knowledge on the subject. Try contacting him.

rifle as to be completley dissasembled.. no the barrel doesnt have to come off.
if im doing the work. i would take it apart, and put it back together.
your rifle would have been parkerized originally. made late sept 1918..
bolt and other small parts would be blued.
without removing the front sight...you wont get the bands on or off...

I would leave just as it is for shooting since the barrel and action are mis-matched. Find one with a matching barrel for a restoration project. Regards, Rick.

for the record - ALL of the parts left the factory with an "E" mark that were marked , i commend you on your endeavor

If its accurate don't mess with it. Get another one with matched barrel and receiver (original) and bring that one up to snuff.

Collector value wise the mixed barrel/receiver is low but as a shooter the value is high.
