Sighting No1Mk111*

Just a quick conformation (or cheats) that in order to drift the front sight, I have to take the nose cap off.
So it would go ...
Shoot 3 shot group
Figure out correction
Remove nose cap
Make correction
Replace nose cap
Shoot again
Repeat if needed

Yes, unless you have a rifle with the Australian modification of holes machined in the nosecap ears!

Bugger, I was hoping it was rather more simple then that. The range officers are funny about anyone working on the front of a weapon where I shoot.

Try slightly loosening the foreside blade in the dovetail before you go to the range, only enough to allow it to move with slight force,take a permanent marker and a flat blade screwdriver.
mark a witness line so you have a startpoint, then use the flat screwdriver to lever the sightblade as required.
Once you have achieved a zero, either centerpop the blade, or mark it's position with your texta so it can be done later.

One of the dealers who used to shoot with our local club who usually had a few good/decent No1 rifles to sell/trade, used to come to the shoots with an 'earless' nose cap with an opened out muzzle aperture that he would put on rifles needing to be zeroed to an individual. That way he could use the usual issue tool/cramp thinggy. A use for a damaged nose cap?

I suppose the RCO's are al;ways a bit safetl conscious Jesse but you would never need to be in front of the riflew to zero it. Maybe you could give him the bolt OR leave it behind you, in his sight while you're doing it. We would certainly allow this when Armourers were doing something on the range if they left the breech block and carried behind the firing line

I could buy a crappy nose cap and either do the "Australian modification" or cut the ears off and use that. Those are great ideas!
When I say being at the front of the rifle I guess I should have said being at the front side while still on the shooting bench. Not actually in front of the barrel.
