Old Trigger Pull Gauge

A couple of days ago, a mate found this in an antique shop and bought it for me. I've done some searching and have not been able to come up with anything definite regards to it's age or origins. It is very well made, and despite having been "cleaned" still retains some of the original blue on the steel, although the "arm" is slightly pitted. There doesn't appear to be any markings other than the 0 to 16lbs on the scale. The hook is shaped to fit both the round cocking piece of the early carbines as well as the larger cocking piece with the integral safety on the rest of the models of the time.
Any info would be appreciated.

I liberated 2 of these from the gun pod bay at RAF Cottesmore in 2006 when the Harrier gun pods were retired. No one knew why they were in the kit but they must have been used for testing some part. I felt they would have a better home in my collection.

Great piece of kit.

Best part; the batteries NEVER go flat. Just be careful of rust on the spring.

As long as you have the data on "high" and "low" limits of the various springs, they are invaluable. Can also be used whilst fishing on waterborne exercises, though probably a bit small for marlin or a decent mackerel.

Mine is made by Salter and is also similar to the Tester, Trigger"B" List No. 49. It shows no sign of military issue.

I think that they're still part of the Armourers basic tool kit. Though nowadays they have to be calibrated every two years. There used to be TWO in a kit. The other one a bit smaller with a string loop at each end for use on the Vickers and Brens

Both types are still part of the kit issued here, except the current model is smaller and not as well made... A couple of weapons have them listed in their gauges, but updates indicate use of the digital model.

A couple of weeks ago someone found one of these on eBay. Can't find the listing now, but it was mis-ID'd and went cheap.
