Savage Enfield
Purchased Savage Enfield No 4, Mk 1 (S with exploding bomb). The issue is the serial number does not have the letter C in it. The serial number is 10885. Any ideas. I was told that it was brought back after WWII by the soldier that used it. Thanks for any help.

Lets see a picture of the left side of the butt socket where the serial number is.

tmac: Go to the third "sticky" from the bottom on the Lee Enfield forum page and follow the instructions for uploading photos. If you can save it on your harddrive you can easily upload and attach but you have to keep the image size below 1MB.

An English friend found info and thinks it was made in Maltby, Yorkshire England. Apparently Savage sent parts to two factories in England during WW II and these did not have the C in the serial number.
Thanks for your ideas and help.

Sounds like a historically interesting rifle, could we have some pics?

T/mac, tell your friend that they didn't send rifle bodies to England as spare parts
