Sterling Mk6/No SA - one for Captain Laidler

Wonder if you can help me with this?

I came across a stripped Sterling Mk6 receiver. It has the Mk6/No SA markings on the magazine housing.

It has the block to prevent a full-auto trigger pack from being put in, but is doesn't have the round hole the semi-auto "dog-leg" fits through.

I have a single shot trigger pack with the dog-leg and step cut out. I also have a single shot trigger pack that doesn't have the step cut out and has a Mk4 type sear. :confused:

Was the "dog-leg" deleted at some point in production?

Is there a single shot trigger pack that doesn't have the dog-leg?

I really don't want to drill the hole in the receiver if it's not necessary. But I am not sure cutting the dog-leg off is the right thing to do either. :confused::confused:

Er...... your descriptions don't equate to mine Vince. Maybe you could elaborate with a page from the trigger mech parts list. You never know, we might be able to help - descriptively of course - to save you messing about with yours

On page 223,, part 18A in the diagram,, "The dog-leg extension atop the sear cradle spring guide....... ensures that the sear cradle is positively depressed, so releasing the sear, with each cycle of the breech block"

Problem is my receiver doesn't have the round hole for the dog-leg to go through,, like in this picture I shamelessly swiped off the net somewhere.

Do you think the dog-leg is really necessary? I think it's redundant and am wondering if it was discontinued at some time in the production run. If that's the case, I will cut the dog-leg off.

Cut it off or better still, do you want a standard one to save the real McCoy?

It was there as a double safeguard so that if the safety was et to R and the trigger was gently squeeeeeezed, it COULD allow the breech block to operate while just not tripping the sear and you'd have rock-and-roll, albeit by default. To be honest, you'd have to go some to achieve this, but rules is rules.......

I would like to restore it as close to original as possible. The receiver is in new condition and I've managed to find all the other original Mk6 Sterling parts. So, I would like to use the real McCoy in it.

Looking at the trigger mechanisms in the Mk6 copies made by Wise Lite Arms and Masterpiece Arms. They do not have the dog-leg and there is no hole for it in the receiver.

Apex also sells semi-auto trigger mechanisms like the ones made by Wise Lite Arms and Masterpiece Arms. It's a modified Mk4 mechanism. The sear has been cut, a pin welded in to prevent the change lever from going to automatic and the step cut.

After giving this some thought, I think I will use one from Apex. You never know how something like cutting it off could be misinterpreted, and I don't want any of those troubles.

Don't quote me but I think the earlier Mk.6 guns had the feature and it was done away with on later production models.

The casing was made like that before someone at the ATF decided that it required a secondary 'non auto' back-up feature. Simple as that!

So I was arse backwards. The early models didn't have the feature and the later ones did.
