SS contract mausers
Just for future reference, if I'm ever looking at a Mauser k98, how would I be able to identify an SS contract rifle. It is my understanding that it is difficult to determine a genuine one but it would surely be a great help to know what to look for if I were ever to come across one.
Thanks

If it wasn't made by Steyr, it isn't an SS contract rifle. After that, no clue. Manufacture code 660 or bnz.

SS contract rifles were the first 10,000 produced by Steyr. these rifles first appeared in 1943 so it will be code bnz.. they will be serial numbers 1-10,000 with no letter suffix. as the SS was separate from the Heer, it will not have a waffenamt on top of the receiver as regular military rifles would.
