I see many references to counting the diamonds to determine maker and approximate age of double diamond stocks for the 1911. Exactly what or how are you counting? I can't figure which ones to count.

Count the rows of small diamonds from one point of the large diamond to the other on early stocks, and from the top of the screw hole to the other on the later full checkered grips.
These are 13 row Colt stocks.
