Got My First Lee Enfield No 1 MK III

After a long search, I finally found a Lee Enfield in military configuration. Its a 1940 BSA No 1 MK III. It came with a box of 180gr Federal Power Shock, a spare mag, and the sling. The previous owner did a great job taking care of it. Got it just in time as Remembrance Day is just around the corner. On that note, I noticde well I was walking though the mall today when I was on my way to pick this Lee Enfield up, 1 out of 10 people were wearing a poppy. Pretty sad man.

Here is my WWII military rifle collection as of so far. I'll be looking for a Mauser next. Most likely a Brno Vz 24. I can't wait to get out and try 'er out. I intend to use this Lee Enfield as my hunting rifle for moose and elk. IT WILL NOT BE SPORTERIZED!!! The good ol' .303 is more than capable and hunting with iron sights is rapidly becoming a lost art ;)

Those are hard to find. I had a RFI one for some time, but nothing beats an original. Nice little collection. That SVT is also making me envious.

Nice find and in what appears to be in very good condition.

Here in BC you can purchase a SVT40 for $200.00 which is a pretty decent deal, should you need another one.

Hardlicker, is your SMLE missing a cutoff? From the pics it looks like the wood and the receiver are both cut for one, and a MkIII (no start) should really have one...

By the look of it, it has been rebuilt in Australia since the war. I note the coachwood furniture and modified ears on the niosecap. On the left side of the butt socket in might have a marking, something like MA'51 which will indicate this. Also look for a D^D mark indicating australian ownership and perhaps a 50's dated Lithgow barrel.

These late Aussie FTR's (Factory Thorough Repair) are some of the best finished and best condition No1's you will ever see!

It makes me sad that very few of us in the states (especially the younger people of my generation!) really knowledge Remembrance Day (or Veteran's Day here in the US)...it's just another day for 99% of us.

You couldn't be more correct! Scopes and other optical sights, like many luxuries, are making us lazier and less skilled in those areas. A person who can shoot well with iron sights is an ability that deserves respect!

That is insane!!! Russian Mosins from some suppliers are getting to be that expensive now, at least in the US.
