Colt 1911 research?
hello, i am new to your community, but not to guns. i am trying to research a colt 1911 that my grandfather gave me. he carried it in WW1 as well as WW2. he was a commander in the navy seabee's and was in the south pacific in WW2. it seems to be all original, with no armory rebuild markings. i have his 1911, 2 or 3 clips and the holster. i believe the pistol was made in 1918 and it is a colt. the finish is mostly worn, and it has bakelite grips.

The serial number would help. The 1911 originally had wood grips, so the plastic grips are replacements. The original finish was blue.

Hate to be repetitive, but www://coolgunsite.com is a fantastic starting resource.
