Help needed to identify sniper rifle transit case

Not exactly Enfield related but hopefully Peter and others will care to comment. I recently picked up a wooden and metal rifle case from the Telford area within about a mile of Donnington depot. It is very military looking and my Parker Hale M85 fits perfectly. However, I have seen the metal cases for the M85 which is very similar to the L96 cases. My gut feel is that this may be a case for one of the sniper trials rifles used to find the replacement for the L42A1. All comments would be welcome - it is very well constructed and the catches are lockable.

My gut feelijng is that the foam inner is/just looks too amateurish to be part of the rifle trials kit. It looks like - and sorry to be a bit unkind here....., diplomacy and all that....... someones got a bit of foam and his mums bread knife and fitted it out. Ours were all done by water-jet cutting by a company in Portsmouth way using what they called high density foam stuff!

the box construction dose not look british (German?) the catches are nothing like the ones used on any British transit box.
and I must agree with Peter about the foam. I've never seen the grey soft foam its usually harder black type.

Looks non-British to me. Think it might possibly be a French box for the FR-F1.

Well, for my ten "p"'s worth the catches do look like something Protex did and the case is very familiar as I am currently trying to find such a case for my M85. Nigel can you find the word Protex anywhere? If it was an M85 case there would have been a lock flap on the lid, and also the carry handle is elongated, not like the one shown on yours.

The foam has definitely been changed as the M85 cases made by the Portsmouth company Peter alludes to, had Plastisote or however you spell it, professionally cut out already for rifle and bipod fitted and shaped for scope to be carried at the same time.
The layout for UK Police was two slots top left for mags as you look down on the case level with the scope then, cleaning rods and oil bottle.

As soon as we got to an operation, the case was simply left behind in the van, so in answer to whoever raised it, yes the rifle and scope were always attached once zero'd

this is a box for the sub caliber adaptor (9mm ?) for the British 84mm anti tank, the same fitting and box edge..no mention of "protex" on this one
