1917 WW1 Colt 1911
Hi folks,
I have been forever wanting a vintage 1911 to go with my military vintage rifles and as luck would have it, I was just browsing the LGS an spotted a consignment piece put up by a 70 year old widow selling off her husbands guns. I saw that it was a Colt and that was always one of my desires when looking for a 1911 just because I like the "Colt" association with the 1911 even though the other brands are every bit as good.....
Now I am not anywhere close to really knowledgeable on these but based on my limited understanding of the 1911 'look for' items for a good purchase, this one seemed to be a good find so I jumped on it. It cost me $1850 and think I paid top dollar for it but still within what I consider to be a fair value for this piece in the condition it is in.
Can anybody tell me anything specific about this weapon other than it is a US Army assigned 1911 from 1917? Can somebody do an SRS search for me?

Looks like an early model from the markings but I am not an expert on 1911's just happen to have a few in mixed in my milsurps. Check out http://coolgunsite.com Lot of info on 1911's markings & photos that might answer most of your questions.

I checked out the site and it appears my 1911 is all correct for it's serial number. I pulled it all apart and the only other marking I found was on the bottom of the barrel where it had a "D" near the base of the barrel disconnect, and a small 'c" on the side of the disconnect. other than that, I saw not other stamped markings on the internals.
Gave it a good cleaning and lubed it up and it feels like a new gun.....!

If it's all correct you did well at $1800. Looks like a very nice pistol. Regards, Rick.
