Where did you get this Bob? It sounds like a mis-nomer...to me...any more explanation with it?
The AFN-49 was full auto and developed for the argentine navy in .308 nato removable box mag 20 round fn-49 is all it is, same exact rifle but with a 20 round removable box mag and a selecter switch for full auto,was not a very highly produced rifle , they were experimental for the agentinian naval forces and possibly arming the military ground forces with them , they were found to be uncontrolable in full auto mode and the design was dropped and they began devoloping the fnfal for same argentine forces. they as well used a full auto version of the fnfal during the falkland island war with the brits while the brits had the semi auto fnfal, first time that rifle faced off against each other with two armed forces fighting each other was during the falkland war.Hope that helps. far as serial numbers cant help ya there but have seen the afn in a few pics of the arab israeli wars , and a few were used by the argentinians in the falklands not to great success, Israel and some south american countries bought up the lot of afns the argentines rejected.Primarily a lot of them went to central american rebels as well and police forces. ie contras, etc. Think i covered it all lol, but thats my knowledge of the afn-49. I am not positive of it but i think they had a few prototypes of the afn-49 in 30.06 as well for sale to the IMI forces in the 50s and 60s.

yep that is it , i have always loved the fn-49 think it is a better full battle rifle than the Garand JMO, and i also would love the removable box 20 round mag ,lotta firepower.And in 7.62 nato ammo is plentiful compared to the 8mm mine uses . nice pics thanx for sharing. Impressive wall of fns ill say , would love a collection like that i feel lucky to own 1 lol.:thup:Quote:

IIRC, the safety and selector are on opposite sides of the trigger group. So there's a cutout on both sides of the stock above the respective actuating pads. At least that's what springs to mind based on seeing bits and pieces and not recently.
