I tried to make a cerrosafe cast of the chamber of my M96 got too much in it and then couldn't get the cast out! I heated it up with a hair dryer and got most of i out but not all of it. https://www.milsurps.com/images/impo...16ea5d92-1.jpgWhat I think I want to do is submerge it in boiling water but I don't think I want to submerge the bolt stop at the same time. Question is (and you're welcome to tell me a better way of getting the remaining cerrosafe out) how do I remove the bolt stop?
The bolt stop is simply screwed in. The screw head is quite visible in the top of the bolt stop. It will turn quite stiffly, because the bolt stop spring pushes sideways onto the bolt stop, and this presses on the screw. You need to hold the action body so that your thumb is firmly on the bolt stop spring, pressing it in to relieve the pressure on the screw. The spring usually shows up as being bluer than the bolt stop body, because of the spring temper, not because it has been "blued"!
You will find that you can unscrew it a couple of turns, and then you will observe that the head of the screw is no longer rising, because the threads have disengaged. At this point use a suitable implement to lever up the screw head until the screw comes loose - at which point the bolt stop spring would make the stop fly away - if you do not keep your thumb firmly on the spring!
Replacing the screw is more awkward. You will see the the screw has a tapered end, to make it easier to insert it through the stop into the body and start the thread engagement. But you will almost certainly have to press the bolt spring/body firmly in again to enable the threads to engage. If you do not do this, you may find that you are turning the screw uselessly round and round, and merely spoiling the start of the thread!

Whilst the hot water would work, I think I'd rather just put the receiver in the oven with the door cracked so the barrel can poke out. That or round up an old pot and use oil instead of water. Just watch the temp with a thermometer.Quote:
