I have a Magazine Lee Enfield rifle Mk 1* ( Lee Enfield Story by Skennerton, page 387).
The rifle had been sporterized years before I had bought it at the local gun shop. As usual the forstock was cut down just ahead of the lower band. The rear folding sight is missing where on the latter models the safety would be.
What I am wanting to do is convert it back to the original configuration. Can I modify a forstock from one of the latter models? Also the nose cap is unique. Ideas anyone?
Welcome to the forum. Restoring one of these is not an easy proposition. An SMLE forend won't do you any good as it's too short for one thing, and as you may already know original MLE wood is almost impossible to find. Have you thought about making a new front section and attaching it to your original forend so the seam is hidden by the band? Small metal bits & pieces come up on Ebay from time to time. Good luck with it, whatever you do!
this is a tuff restoration , but one well worth the time and effort , finding these rifles in original nick on the loose is fairly rare here , i think you have an advantage there as i suspect parts are more available , the parts will be hard to find and costly when found but again this is an effort of love , i admire your devotion , sorry i dont have any metal bits to offer ,

thanks, I will pull the rifle out later. Over the holidays will have time to look at things. Its currently -25 C outside here in western Canada so the inside projects seem more proper!
Replacement wood from EFD Rifles - The Enfield Specialists is an option also.
