Perhaps it means low number receiver since it's below 800,000.
I think you are confusing the early O3's that had brittle actions before 800,000. I have never heard of this problem with M1917 rifles. Regards, Rick.
It's a low serial, should originally have been blued. Your rifle however looks parkerized. Therefore probably during refubishment added?
The peen is a second proof indicating the rifle was headspaced and test fired during depot overhaul. It also would indicate the bolt was changed also. From a friend on another forum. Merry Christmas.
again...likely done after bolt, bolt latch and trigger were fitted, after heat treatment.
