Savage No 4 value question

I am new to this forum and have a question about a No 4 for sale locally. I have the chance to buy a 1943 dated Savage No. 4 Mk 1 that was FTR'd in 1948. The rifle looks like it wasn't handled much and everything matches. The bore is in good shape with dirt in the grooves. It passes my oakie field gauge fine. There is green paint on the buttstock. The seller wants $500 for it but I am not sure if that is a fair price. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it. I'm looking for a rifle to that will be a good shooter since I don't want to unwrap my unissued No 4 Mk 2 I bought a while back when they were cheap.

For my money the attraction of an FTR is the hopefully newish barrel and the trigger on the receiver mod - if it got that. If the barrel is just OK then the attraction goes down considerably and if you're not planning on having a whole family of No4s in the house, why not hold out for one that is more original and still in nice shooting condition?

But if you just want one that shoots well, a later Mk2 that someone has unwrapped will be the most likely to shoot well as is.

Prices have risen on both sides of the border, but I don't know if that is the going rate on your side or not. Up here it would be a common asking price for a decent example with decent, matching wood.
