30-06 surplus Ammo headstamped SL -- 43 is corrosive or not?

Greetings everyone. Glad to be a part of your forum. It seems fascinating.

My favorite Christmas present: an M1 Garand from CMP.

I'm looking for folks who know this rifle well because I have some questions, tips on function/shooting/cleaning, etc.

Also, anyone out there (maybe I should say, "in here" at Milsurps) know if .30-06 surplus ammo headstamped SL -- 43 is corrosive or not?

Hi Scott any chance you can paste a link in so the forum members can assist in your question

SL 43 would be corrosive (potassium chlorate) unless the primers were replaced. (Cases re-loaded wouldn't alter the headstamp.) Assume any US military .30/06 before 1953 is corrosive, although some changed a bit earlier.

SL switched over to non-corrosive in 1953.
