Bolt Tool Deal
Not sure if these are really USGI - more experienced members may jump in. But, they look pretty good and I don't think you will get a USGI tool nowadays for less than $47.50 delivered. If you have and shoot a carbine you need this tool - period. ChipS

I believe it is commercial. I have used both and the US GI bolt tolls work a lot better than the commercial ones I have used. I would only buy US GI bolt tools in the future. The difference in price is too small for the added quality.

Can anyone suggest a source for USGI bolt tools?

Since I use them, I bought a few extra over the years, Send me a PM if you like.

I have 2 and they have major differences. One I believe is GI is almost like tne one ChipS is looking at . The thumb screw, two piece, has Fine knurling and the end plate is inside the bolt holding channel. The thumb screw mount is part of the bolt holding channel with a threaded insert . This one has a pin holding the paw on. The other one has course knurling, end plate is on end, and screw mount is welded on. Also the bolt holding the paw on has been bent[soft]. Just a comparision. Bubba, I agree with you that they appear to be commercial. The "blades" look too thin to be GI. They would work, but the user needs to be careful not to apply too much pressure or the blades will break.

I've been told that the G.I. bolt tools have a few threads flattened on the thumbscrew to keep it from falling out and getting lost. That may depend on the manufacturer - not sure. I have one I bought (not in the wrap) that had some grease or cosmoline on it - it's got the flattened threads. I also have a commercial version made by DPMS, and the threads aren't flattened - it's the only one I've used so far, and works pretty good. It was $25 and the G.I. cost about $40 a year or two ago. - Bob

Check the construction of the tool. The end plate should be mounted in the channel and the bolt mount should be a curved tab off the channel. Not an add on. I got mine on ebay from France for $33 not too long ago..
