Have just got hold of a cavalry carbine bucket off the bay for my No. 5. `Tis a perfect fit, but of course not made for the No. 5. Is there any knowledge about the exact carbine it was made for? (couldn´t find any markings whatsoever).

Any makers marking or broad arrow? Looks more Mauserish to me, but what do I know.
The slot is obviously for a bolt handle, what has a bolt that high and still makes the reach to the stock hole?
Jim, I can lift the LE No. 5 bolt a bit and it´ll then fit the slot with the flap closure still ok. But why would anyone want to have a rifle in the bucket with a half open bolt (unless it was meant as a safety measure). The bucket could be for the Henry.
Breakyp: Germany was never fond of cavalry rifle scabbards. `Twas purchased as "for an Enfield" but that´s no guarantee.
Couldn't the slot be for the carbine sling?
Attachment 49763I tried it and it looks logical ....
