Can any of you kind gentlemen give me some pointers on fitting a cheek rest?
The radius of the cheek rest is too small for the butt stock. What tool(s) and techniques do you use to get a good fit?
I am pretty good with metal work, but know next to nothing about woodworking. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I apply inletting black to the area, then put the cheekpiece on in the orientation I'm after, then use a chisel and gouges to relieve the high points, until it bears close and evenly throughout.
Didn't know about inletting black. Looks like it works like layout fluid for metal.

Courtesy of "mudpuppy" with additional feedback from "Cantom", there's MOD Pattern Room blueprints from the 1940/50's for the scope mount, pads, pad screws, thumb screws and cheekpiece, plus instructions on how to properly mount the cheekpiece.

IT's worth bearing in mind that even though you are about to use a modern repro cheek rest, that the original cheek rests were not designed for the No4 butt. That they fit the butt reasonably(?) well is pure coincidence. The cheek rests were designed for the P'14 sniper rifles by the SASC team at the sniper school to raise the cheek/head to accommodate the higher scope. They fitted a couple to No4's liked them, changed the No4T spec, had it approved at a hurried sitting of the Ordnance Board (I think it was November '41) and the rest is history.
H&H charged a bit extra for this service but initially over-estimated the charge as they thought that they were going to supply the cheek rests, as they did the trigger guard sling swivels but were told that the 'new' cheekrests would be supplied as an 'embodiment loan'. That is, supplied by Ordnance, on loan, and would be returned attached to the rifles!
There, another useless bit of Enfield history that you didn't know about and can tell your mates. Maybe you did already know, as I have mentioned this several times before. Sorry to go off at a tangent. It's an age thing!
