I reckon all flame thrower operators should have received the Medal of Honour for going in to the fray with that lot strapped to their back.
Sure they were a favorite pick for Jap snipers.
If you see one operate in person, you will be floored. We held one GCA convention at Allan Cors's Virginia Military Museum, and they did a re-enactment of a WWII Marine squad attacking a pillbox. Extremely realistic, including a mortar firing rounds that appeared to explode on the target... chook, BAM! Then the squad assaulted and the flame thrower guy cut loose -- WOW! The crowd was in bleachers about 50 yards away, we went nuts!
Looks like he's giving them a wet shot on top of the fire right now...
