Very interesting 1936 Tula 91/30.

Found this old war horse at the show last Saturday. It is a 1936 Tula sitting in an M91 stock. No import marks, in fact virtually all markings are about worn off. You can barely make out the star and year on the receiver. Bottom of the tang confirmed the year. Remington bolt with numbered cocking piece, Remington buttplate, M91 barrel bands. At first I thought the barrel had been shortened, but that was due to the longer M91 stock. This is definitely brought back from somewhere, but where? This one has definitely been around the block. Ok, having prob with pics..

I have a '37 Izhevsk that was in a M91 stock that has been shortened to 91/30 length. Has M91 bands but no hand guard. Bolt is a mis match and it has no rebuild or import markings. I always figured it to be a vet bring back from Korea or Viet Nam. Stock is split from front action screw down through the wrist into the comb. I replaced it with a pre war 91/30 stock just for shooting purposes. Interesting that another one with a similar stock has turned up.

Interesting. This stock has not been shortened, and it does give the barrel a shortened look. No upper handguard on this one either. It has definitely been through the wringer. I thought Vietnam myself at first, but maybe SCW?

It also has what appears to be a crude star and cross carved in the buttstock. Extremely dark patina all over it, bore shot completely out.

After a bit of research, I believe this rifle started life as a Simonov trials rifle, as it has a serial number starting with 0. As in 025**. Believe it went to Spain at some point. This thing keeps getting more interesting.....

It's confirmed. It is indeed a 1936 Tula Simonov trials rifle set in what I would assume is a Remington M91 stock, as it has a Remington buttplate. Also, the bolt and magazine are entirely Remington. Most interesting Mosin I've ever owned by far. Now if I can just get some pics up..
