are we to believe this is a 1945 prototype of a rifle that was in full production in march 1944
and the mag ia a SMLE mag not a No5 or 4 mag
Can't wait to read more comments. The seller is pretty sure of his description.
It is a .22.
It does look VERY similar to the .22 trainer prototype on pages 294 and 505 of "The Lee Enfield"; serial numbers are 4 units different.
There appears to have been about 102 of these made.

Pretty close. Also the checkering and the sights.
Maybe it is correct but I love the history lesson bit gads he must have copped some floggings over his descripts over the years for maybe bullyanging people, but in this case it appears legit as from the above link from Promo.....:dunno:
I know the owner of the rifleman website and have sent him the link. He had confirmed that it's legit. I also told him he should register here and participate. Hopefully Terence will follow my recommendation, if he isn't already registered yet :)
Edit: forgot to mention .. it's not a prototype rifle, it's however a true .22 No. 5. There were 100 done, but they aren't considered to be prototypes but only a small batch which were done.
The rear sight is different from mine but seems acceptable.
Saved auction information here for posterity and future member research .. ;)
Regards,
Doug
