Parade Rifle
Did some minor restoration on this and thought I'd put up a couple of pics. It was briefly discussed some time ago and the best guess was a Canadian done ceremonial/parade item. The markings are gone but I'm pretty sure it's a Savage. It was not expensive to buy and most ladies who visit want to know about "that nice shiny one" and that ain't a bad thing.

That is a "nice shiny one"! Even the stock. I've never seen one quite like that. Interesting that you believe it is a Savage. I had a Savage about 5 years ago with a front band that was that color. I always just thought it was some kind of fluke. If I took pictures of it I will find them, but I can't remember. Did not have it for long. Do you mind linking the pervious thread? I would be interested to read. Thanks.

Does it shoot? Looks like something Saddam Hussein would have posed with on his balcony
-
Apparently Saddam had two M1 rifles as family guns...for hunting hares and such...but not chrome plated.

Brought one back from Gulf 1, but a No1. Gave it away. Pure sack of shi........., manure. How to ruin a good 1918 SMLE I thought. But like everything, if done nicely, there's a place for everything
-
I think it started as a functional although maybe not servicable rifle with a good two-groove bore. The trigger, sear, safety and fore & aft sights were not removed prior to plating and are now on there to stay which leads me to believe that no further serious use was intended. At some point after that the bolt head was internally soldered to the bolt (evidence of torch heat in the mag well) locking the whole thing up. I did free up the bolt assy. but have clipped off the firing pin tip just because.
Old thread; Chrome No.4

Well you would certainly need @ 3 pressure packs of sight black to stop all the glare and well you would have to limit your incursions to a really cloudy day as to sneak around with that rifle in direct sunlight would make you stand out like a Buick straight eight amongst VW Beetles???
